Beauty is in the Eye of the Beholder

One man’s trash is another man’s treasure. Don’t believe me? Then I highly recommend taking a trip to an antique/craft show near you. You will not be disappointed.Roundtop, Texas

What a wonderful way to learn about history, revisit memories from your childhood, and find one of a kind gifts for just about anybody. Even that person who seems to have everything.

My favorite show is held in the Round Top and Warrenton, Texas area. Twice a year, I do everything under the sun to make the two hour trip to discover that next gem that I can turn from trash to treasure. Or maybe it’s a cute, original piece I can’t find in the malls and shops around town. Trust me when I say the creativity at these shows bounces through the air from one tent to the next like an electrical charge gone wild. It’s such a great way to get my creative juices flowing not even nasty weather can keep me away. ;) Let’s just say even though I froze and my truck almost got stuck in the mud from the heavy rain the night before, I loved every minute and can’t wait to go back in the fall. Can you say addicted? LOL

We go the last week of the show and usually on a Thursday to avoid the crowds. But even then, for about a ten mile stretch, the pastures are filled with tents spilling over with goodies and the traffic pretty much comes to a slow crawl as pedestrians take over the roads. It seems to grow bigger every year too. There is no way to see it all in a day. Shoot. It might take you an entire week to walk through most of it and when you leave, you’d still come across a pasture you missed somehow.

My favorite finds this year are in the picture below, but there were so many more.

From cowhides and old rustic windows, to cute t-shirts with collars, to angels made out of scrabble tiles, to flip flop art and a fountain made out of an old bathtub using a pump and floating bottles. Wish I’d gotten a picture of that bathtub. Talk about a great conversation piece. Too funny!

And then there was this one.

Deer What?

I’m not sure what they were really trying to sell. Maybe camo and hunting gear? LOL

No matter what you’re looking for, I’m betting it’s waiting to be discovered at a show near you. And at a great price too. I’ve always thought it would be cool to have a group go together and then have a scavenger hunt. Talk about a fun way to spend time with your friends or family.
